Q: Urgent! My Puppy’s Sick…

I just got a new puppy, and I’ve had her for four days. She’s been perfectly fine. But suddenly, she became weak this morning. She couldn’t even move her head. She won’t eat and can’t even whimper. She’s seriously thin, and I’m afraid she’s caught some bug or has something stuck in her throat. Please help!

A:

Take her to the vet. Immediately.

The Animal Medical Center in New York City is the number one ER that all vets send emergency patients too when they are closed. They also offers advice (for a fee) over the phone

Here is there number: (212) 838-8100

I don’t want to alarm you, and I certainly can’t offer any medical diagnosis, but it sounds like it could be Parvo (Canine Parvovirus).

Fatigue, weight loss, and rapid decline, especially among puppies are the most common symptoms and it is fatal if not treated soon.

Here’s a wiki link to its description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canine_parvovirus

Even if it is not Parvo, it needs to be treated ASAP, because her symptoms sound severe.
